The Baker group studies the interactions among structure, deformation, and mechanical properties in a wide range of materials. Our focus is on both how atomic level structure determines how and when a material deforms and on how stresses and deformation affect structure. We accomplish this by a combination of nanoscale mechanical testing, detailed experimental analysis of structure, and modeling and simulation.
